The Proof Photography offers two types of newborn photography sessions: Posed Newborn Sessions, and Lifestyle Newborn Sessions. Do you know the difference between the two? More importantly, do you know your preferred newborn photography style? This post will help you find out!
In Home Lifestyle Newborn Session
If you prefer candid, minimally posed images that portray the emotion of the moment, then a Lifestyle newborn photography session is for you. Lifestyle portraits are the ideal way to include the entire family and the home environment, and artistically capture things just as they are.
An in home lifestyle newborn photography session is perfect for remembering your current family dynamics and for showing the care and attention you placed into getting your home ready to welcome baby.
What to wear for your in home lifestyle newborn photography session
In this particular session, you can see the entire family is present, including Grandma and Grandpa. Everyone is dressed casually and comfortably, but we can still see a definite coordination in the clothing. When choosing outfits for your session, it’s best to choose two to three main colors, and avoid wearing clothing with bold patterns and logos.
An in home lifestyle newborn photography session does not require as much time as a posed session. These are ideal for fussy babies who have difficulty falling asleep. A typical lifestyle session lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on baby.
Posed Newborn Session
If you are looking for perfect doll-like images that will make your friends and family go crazy from ‘cute overload’ then a posed newborn photography session is for you! Posed sessions may take a bit more time and work, but they’re well worth it!
A posed newborn photography session can still take place in your home – in fact, I recommend it! Everyone is just starting to get settled in, and baby is probably probably most comfortable at home. Why travel when we can bring the studio to you?!
I will bring props, wraps, and posing pillows to ensure the newborn is 100% safe during posing. If you have any outfits or props you want us to include in the photos, just place them nearby where they can be easily accessed.
Posed sessions include the newborn only, and may last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, depending on baby. Many families choose to add extra time to achieve more looks, or to photograph baby with parents and siblings in the same session.
Preparing for the Newborn Photography Session
The best way you can prepare for your newborn photography session is to eat and rest up. Many people worry about the condition of their home and whether it will be suitable for a newborn photography session. Trust me, your home is the perfect location! If you are concerned about housekeeping, don’t be. I had three babies of my own, and let’s just say cleaning wasn’t exactly on my to-do list. You have a tiny human requiring your full-time attention and a body that has just been through Birthing Boot Camp, so give yourself a break!
We look for a quiet room with a big window to let in lots of natural light, and for posed sessions, a door we can shut to keep heat in, and distractions out. If you don’t have that, we will find the next best spot and make it work! It’s really that simple!
